'Dangerous' Suspect Fires Shots By Public Parking Lot, Hides Behind Car In Westchester: Police

A Fairfield County man faces charges after firing shots near a public parking lot in Westchester and trying to avoid arrest by fleeing officers, police said.

The incident happened on Monday morning, March 27 in Port Chester when officers responded to the Marina parking lot at 51 Abendroth Ave. after it was reported that shots were fired in the area, according to Port Chester Police. 

After arriving at the scene, officers eventually found the suspect crouching behind a parked vehicle. When he was then confronted by police, he allegedly tried to flee the scene and walk away. However, he was then taken into custody. 

Both a 9mm handgun and spent shell casings were found at the scene, police said.

The 44-year-old man, a resident of Stamford whose name was not released, was charged with the following: 

  • Possession of a loaded firearm;
  • Reckless endangerment; 
  • Prohibited use of a weapon. 

The suspect, who Port Chester PD called a "dangerous individual," is now awaiting arraignment.
